FRINTON & WALTON HERITAGE TRUST & WALTON MARITIME MUSEUM
JAMES STEVENS No.14 LIFEBOAT
RESTORATION APPEAL
One of 150 designated vessels on the National of Historic Vessels of
the United Kingdom

The ribs provide the framework for the boat. Planks are attached to the ribs, which run from beam shelf to hog (keel).
They help provide strength and are one of the most important structures in the boat. There are 80 ribs in
James Stevens No.14. All have to be replaced or restored. The original ribs were made of Canadian Rock Elm,
which is no longer available so English Oak will be used for all new ribs.

This is your chance to help restore this historic vessel to sea-going condition by:
Sponsoring a Rib

Modern epoxy resins and other materials will be used to restore those ribs, which can be repaired. The sponsor’s name
will be marked on the rib and recorded on a large-scale diagram in the Walton Maritime Museum. A certificate will be
issued to sponsors indicating the position of their sponsored rib.
