The sea has always been a major influence in the life of Walton and Frinton. It has been the main factor on the community`s development and history, drawing many people to it for work, leisure, settlement and retirement.

Since 1884 the men of Walton and frinton lifeboat have battled at the sea in all its moods in order to save life Their early casualties were numerous cargo vessels plying their trade to London. The sandbanks of the Tames Estuary claimed mane victims: some can still be seen today. Calls today are usually yachtman or fishing boats.

The Heritage Trust has, since its formation 14 years ago, been fortunate to have the support of many people, not only local, who voluntarily give their time, energy, expertise and money for its work. One of the first achievements of the Trust was to restore and preserve as a Maritime Museum the Old Lifeboat House in Walton, built in 1884 with subscriptions raised by members of The Honourable Artillery Company. The acquisition of this historic lifeboat will be a fitting complement.

As president and a founder member of the Trust, I wholeheartedly support and endorse the Restoration Appeal for the James Stevens No.14.
